About the Karrie
Karrie Emms, deeply rooted in Northern Ontario’s rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes, carries a profound connection to the natural beauty and vibrant culture of the region. Growing up in Ontario’s picturesque towns, she developed an innate appreciation for the colors, contours, and scenes that inspire countless artists.
Karrie channels this inspiration into her art, using it as a powerful means of personal expression. She skillfully blends traditional techniques with modern influences, faith-based narratives, and reflections on current events. Her mission is to bridge communication and cultural divides, resonating with those navigating life’s challenges.
As a single mother who homeschooled two incredible children—now thriving adults—Karrie found endless inspiration in their curiosity and creativity. What began as simple explorations, like crafting knights' armor, blossomed into a family business creating chainmaille jewelry. Her son’s journey into glassblowing, blacksmithing, welding, and film set design, alongside her daughter’s achievements in gymnastics, kinesiology, and natural light photography, further fueled Karrie’s passion for nurturing creativity in others.
In December 2021, Karrie’s life was forever changed by the tragic loss of her nephew, Nicholas Adam Kenneth Nicholls whom she helped raise from the age of 14 until his death at 27. His life was taken in a senseless act of violence, yet his legacy lives on through the selfless gift of organ donation and in the youth center which now carries his name. In the face of profound grief, Karrie channeled her grief into resilience by establishing an art center in Nicholas’s honor—a safe haven for young talents to flourish. Through her speaker series and art exhibitions Karrie weaves his story into a legacy of remembrance and inspiration.
